Multiple joint councils in battleground states have expressed their support for Vice President Kamala Harris.

After the International Brotherhood of Teamsters broke from tradition by choosing not to endorse a presidential candidate this election, several joint councils in key battleground states like Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin have publicly pledged their support for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Teamsters General Executive Board stated on Wednesday, “After six months of nationwide member polling and nearly a year of interviews with major presidential candidates, we found little commitment from either former President Donald Trump or Vice President Harris on key Teamsters issues, and no clear support for either party’s nominee among our members.”

This decision stands out in the lead-up to November, as many major labor unions, including the United Auto Workers, AFL-CIO, American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association, and United Steelworkers, have endorsed Harris.

Earlier that day, the Teamsters released an electronic poll showing nearly 60 percent of their membership favored Trump, while a subsequent phone poll indicated that 58 percent preferred Trump, with 31 percent supporting Harris. Trump highlighted these figures at a campaign rally in New York that same day. Nonetheless, various joint councils and local unions, including the Long Island chapter, have endorsed Harris.

“Kamala Harris has been a strong ally of union workers as Vice President of the most pro-union administration in history,” said Bill Carroll, President of Teamsters Joint Council 39 in Wisconsin. “She worked alongside the Teamsters to pass the Butch Lewis Act, which has saved the pensions of over a million retirees. This November, we will unite with millions of union workers nationwide to defeat Donald Trump once again.”

Additionally, Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, received an endorsement from Michigan’s Joint Council 43, which stated: “Both Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz have consistently shown their commitment to the labor movement, protecting Social Security, and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Americans, including women’s reproductive rights.”
